Hummingbird Feeders

One of the pleasures of summer is watching tiny hummingbirds flitting around a colorful feeder. Lavalette Nursery makes it easy for you to enjoy this pastime.

Whether you prefer the traditional red plastic feeder or a more artistic style of glass and decorative wire, you'll find plenty to choose from. Lavalette also has a wide variety of hummingbird food, too.

Hummingbirds get the energy they need to maintain their astonishing metabolism primarily from flower nectar and the sugar water they find at feeders. This sugar is fuel for these bug-eating machines. Hummingbirds eat an incredible amount of soft-bodied insects and spiders every day. That's a great reason you should attract them to your yard.

The birds may find a new feeder sooner if you hang it over or near a bed of hummingbird plants -- the kind with small tubular flowers.

A feeder should be put near a window, so you can observe the tiny creatures from inside your home. To prevent the birds from flying into the window glass, put a drawn curtain or shade on the window, or add cutouts of predatory birds, windsocks or decorative flags on the outside.

Many people who feed hummingbirds have three or four feeders near various windows of their homes, so they can be enjoyed at any time. Having multiple feeders will also attract even more birds.
