Waxxing Sentimental Over Hoyas

Lavalette Nursery's featured plant this season is the hoya, a tropical plant you may know as "Grandma's Old-Fashioned Wax Plant." But that old favorite is only one in a genus comprised of around 200 different species, plus numerous cultivars.

Many hoyas are succulents, and many more have succulent parts, but the majority of them are nonsucculent. Some hoyas are vines and some are shrubs.

Leaves of different plans vary greatly -- some are smooth, some are hairy; some are veinless while others have conspicuous veins. The flowers, ranging from white to yellow and pink, are as varied as the leaves, but all are shaped like five-pointed stars and grow in umbrels. Lavalette Nursery carries many of the most popular varieties.
