Bonide Insect Control

Houseplants which have spent the summer outside will be brought indoors as cooler weather approaches, but you don’t want to also bring in those pesky insects.

Lavalette Nursery offers a product that will take care of that problem.

Bonide Insect Control is convenient, easy-to-use granules that provide effective, long-lasting insect control for 8 weeks. It’s perfect for houseplants because there’s no odor and no spray or mess. The systemic action is absorbed through the roots and moves throughout the plant, even protecting new growth. It kills tough houseplant pests like fungus, gnats, mealy bugs, whiteflies, thips and aphids. It promotes strong roots and beautiful blooms.

Bonide Insect Control can be used on all your outside plants too -- on roses, flowers, shrubs, trees and containerized plants to kill insect pests including aphids, grub larvae, Japanese beetle adults, lacebugs, leaf beetles, leaf hoppers, mealy bugs, thrips and whiteflies. Apply the granules evenly, cultivate lightly and water thoroughly. For containerized plants, apply the appropriate amount evenly work the granules into the top layer of soil, then water.

bonideThis systemic product will not harm even tender tropicals. Nothing drips from leaves and it’s odor-free once it is watered and absorbed.

The Bonide company was founded in 1926 when James H. Wurz of North Utica, N.Y., quit his job as a traveling salesman and along with his brother George started what we know today as Bonide Products Inc. In those days the Wurz brothers traveled the dirt roads of America in their Model-T, selling 5-gallon pails of dairy and cattle sprays to farmers and feed stores. The brothers would collect sales orders all summer until the roads washed out. Through the winter months they produced their merchandise and come spring they shipped their orders before setting out again for the summer selling season.

More than 80 years later, not much has changed. The company is much larger and today the Wurzes operate out of a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, travel via jet planes and communicate via cell phones and e-mail, but the basic premise is the same. It is still a family owned and operated business which cares about our environment, customers, employees and suppliers.
