Something
Red Hot for the Fall:
The Dwarf Burning Bush
The
featured plant for fall is euonymus alatus compactus, commonly called
dwarf burning bush. This shrub is easily identified in the fall
– it’s the one that turns bright crimson.
Burning bush
has true all-season interest. It has outstanding red fall color
and corky wings on the twigs, which hold winter snow, outlining
the branch structure. The shrub does best in full sun. It will grow
in shade but the fall color won’t be as dramatic. The dwarf
variety, probably the most used in home landscapes, grows to about
7 feet tall at maturity.
The shrub is
excellent for hedges or screens or as a single specimen plant.
